This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all
Even if they're a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its' furniture.
Still treat each guest honorably,
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice,
meet them at the door laughing,
and invite them in.
Be grateful for whoever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.

I use plants and animal life to investigate the complex behaviors of human relationships. The cells, organisms, crustaceans, plants, flowers, animals, and my imagination act like surrogates, representing my relationships with people. I start working on one area of a plate and let my marks grow. I do not know what my image is going to look like in the end. During the process of working on a plate these forms continue to change and evolve. The more I think about a particular relationship the more my images grow.

ADORNMENT THRONE
The insanely talented
is currently installing her new body of work
Adornment Throne
at workshop for the Month of November
I am so excited, I am beside myself
Heidi and I met while fresh-faced coeds at
The School of the Art Institute of Chicago
Heidi has more talent in her tiny pinky toe
than most of the entire population
within a 2,000 square mile radius
for reals
Her most recent body of work has found her in the
throws
of hand embroidered
silk/cotton scarves
embellishments trapped in acrylic
and furniture pieces
totally amazing
let there be light
the work of Matthew Shelton is at once simple and spectacular
I had the pleasure of living with several sizes and variations of his
light boxes
installed in the window box "gallery" at workshop
for the month of October
I am deciding which piece to keep for the shop
and the decision is not an easy one

slow food slow fashion
all images by Eva Daiberl
the slow food slow fashion event at workshop
was a lovely affair....
Abigail Glaum-Lathbury and I wanted to create a small holiday
capsule collection to chase away the wintery blues
we decided to host an intimate preview of the collections
in the form of a small presentation in the window boxes at
workshop
We asked the talented folks over at Nightwood
to create a small tasting experience to compliment the palettes
we chose for our two collections
This is the menu they came up with
the food was incredible!
The beets with and the spiced warm cider
enhanced the warmth of my collection
the milk punch and creamy garlic soup
complimented
Abigail's wintery whites
We wanted to create an experience to
celebrate local tastes and talents
as Abigail and I both create our collections here in
Chicago
and Nightwood utilizes seasonal and local ingredients
to create their menu
we thought it would be a perfect pairing
The lovely folks at Koval, a local boutique distillery,
supplied us with
Koval Pear and Koval Ginger
liquors
adding to the autmnal mixed drinks
and it was all too perfect
an unforgettable evening and a fitting
ode to the bountiful harvest of the season
