Ina Weise has many mediums up her sleeve.... sometimes printing,

sometimes installing, some times taking photographs....

all the time making really cool work.

We are talking about her creating something large scale for the background

for the spring 2012 shoot....

something graphic and bold- perhaps repeat patterning like wallpaper

I am inspired by the small and large scale work she created exclusively

for Post 27- and one of Angela Finney-Hoffman's design clients in the
Trump Tower

Vintage Geisha LOVE: Spring Inspirations 3

I don't know exactly what role these images play

in the styling of spring, all I know is that I am drawn to them

the elaborate hair- the kimono shapes

the white face makeup- 

I guess it all really began with this image of a Greek protester

from the recent Time magazine honoring "the protester" as the person of the year

 Even though she is not a Geisha,

she is so strong and defiant and yet peaceful.

The maalox on her face- worn to prevent irritation caused by tear gas- 

creates this Kabuki theatrical quality.

It seems to be serving as a mask or shield - there is something sinister about it

very spooky and a nice way to bring an edge to

the floral "prettiness" of springtime fashions-

Geishas are lovely- but their history has a dark side of forced beauty and slavery....

In fact, I never like any of my photo shoots, spring or fall to feel to pretty-

it would be an unbalanced picture of how I see things

story to me- made in 1981, the year of my birth, this film still has some legs...

mainly, the entire thing looks like a Fleetwood Mac Album cover

being in post 27 has been a really great experience in many ways

it's wonderful to be exposed to so much local and vintage design

interiors, objects, furniture

Angela Finney- Hoffman, the proprietor of the shop had the most beautiful book

called Wabi Inspirations, a collection of images by the designer/ curator
